LoRaWAN™ and InteliLIGHT®’s New 915MHz Streetlight Controller in Silicon Valley
New functionalities and security features with LoRaWAN™ 1.0.1 and 1.1., LoRa™ certification program in progress and increased interest from US companies to find out more about LoRaWAN™ and available compatible applications.
Brasov, April 11-th, 2016.
The last LoRa™ Alliance meeting was organized within Cisco’s headquarters in Santa Clara, Silicon Valley, California. The event was extremely important for the entire LoRa™ Alliance, as it marked a step towards LoRaWAN™ technology acknowledgment and adoption on the N and S American continents in general and US in particular. Also, FLASHNET’s 915MHz inteliLIGHT® controller was the only functional streetlight application presented, which brought a vivid interest from the US companies at the Open House event.
The inteliLIGHT® controller proved again to be a good example of LoRa® successful integration and best practices within the Alliance. Several US companies were closely interested in the technology developed by Flashnet and several evaluation kit orders were issued on-site. The deployment will be organized in the following months, as soon as the 915MHz controllers will be available for evaluation.
“We have developed the first LoRa™ streetlight controller last year, successfully installed it and then passed the first field trials early in 2016. Last week we have launched the US 915MHz version of our system in Silicon Valley, CA. The LoRa™ Alliance is increasing its global influence and we are proud to be a part of this effort.” said Lorand Mozes, CEO of Flashnet.
Within the alliance itself, probably the most important step forward was the LoRaWAN™ 1.0.1 release, together with the announcement of the 1.1 major update. LoRaWAN 1.1 will provide important changes and advancements, like the highly expected roaming and geolocation capabilities plus improved security keys, adding even more competitive edge for the LoRa™ technology.
The Standardization and certification program, adopted at the previous LoRa® Alliance meeting, is now operational through Authorized Test Houses, which are processing increasing number of requests all over the world. A stable foundation was laid for extending the certification program, including the more complex LoRaWAN™ class C standard, which allows a higher degree of interactivity between field equipment and central servers. We are confident that the Test Houses will be able to address class C devices as well by the end of 2016.
About LoRa™ Alliance:
The LoRa™ Alliance is an open, non-profit association that has grown to more than 250 members since its inception in March 2015, becoming one of the largest and fastest growing alliances in the technology sector. Its members are closely collaborating and sharing their experience to promote the LoRaWAN™ protocol as the leading open global standard for secure, carrier-grade IoT LPWA connectivity. With the technical flexibility to address multiple IoT applications, both static and mobile, and a certification program to guarantee interoperability, the LoRaWAN™ is already being deployed by major mobile network operators and is anticipated to widely expand in 2016.
About LoRaWAN™:
The technology utilized in a LoRaWAN network is designed to connect low-cost, battery-operated sensors over long distances in harsh environments that were previously too challenging or cost prohibitive to connect. With its unique penetration capability, a LoRaWAN gateway deployed on a building or tower can connect to sensors more than 10 miles away or to water meters deployed underground or in basements. The LoRaWAN protocol offers unique and unequaled benefits in terms of bi-directionality, security, mobility and accurate localization that are not addressed by other LPWAN technologies. These benefits will enable the diverse use cases and business models that will enable deployments of large scale LPWAN IoT networks globally.
