hub:raum, Deutsche Telekom’s business accelerator and incubator, has invited inteliLIGHT® to develop compatible streetlight controllers for the new carrier grade communications technology for GSM operators, NB-IoT.
September 6, 2016
hub:raum connects the digital startup ecosystem with Deutsche Telekom, linking tech entrepreneurs and high growth startup companies with the expert network, capital, and business opportunities of Deutsche Telekom. hub:raum Prototyping Kick-Off Meeting in Berlin brought together 24 technology companies from Germany, Poland, Israel, Spain, Estonia, Romania, Turkey, France, US and China, in order to present and test the new NB-IoT opportunities.
The 24 companies presented their IoT vision and developments, from smart watches, tracking solutions (for kids and elderly people), smart metering and utilities, waste management and, of course, street lighting. The mission of this event is to explore the initiative and experience of startups and other dynamic technology companies in order to develop applications integrated with Telekom’s new NB-IoT communication technology.
NB-IoT is a narrowband radio technology specially designed for the Internet of Things (IoT) and developed by Deutsche Telekom, Huawei and U-Blox. It connects devices more simply and efficiently on already established mobile networks, and handles small amounts of infrequent 2‑way data, securely and reliably. Special focus of this standard is on very low power consumption, excellent penetration coverage and lower component costs, deployed in GSM and LTE regulated frequencies.
The event in Berlin featured inspirational speeches, biz/tech talks, and also pitches from the participating startups and innovation companies. The meeting was not nearly only theoretical, the technology presentation leading to actual product presentations and even physically handing out the prototypes for some of the participants. Flashnet was among the companies prepared with a first version of its inteliLIGHT® NB-IoT controller. The next steps are further testing and developing the NB-IoT solution, as the selected prototypes will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, in February 2017.
