Several startups developed IoT solutions using the LoRaWAN infrastructure provided by Cisco and Flashnet at Innovation Labs 2016 hackathon and business accelerator in Bucharest, March 2016
5-6 March 2016, Bucharest: Innovation Labs is a startup hackathon held in four of the largest Romanian cities in order to select and accelerate the most interesting IT & innovation business initiatives in four different domains: Agriculture, Cyber Security, Health & Lifestyle or Retail. “Take a journey off the beaten path” is the motto that brought local universities, top mentors, industry leaders, angel investors and young tech entrepreneurs together in Bucharest, Cluj, Sibiu and Timisoara.
Flashnet was invited by Cisco Romania and Tech Lounge to fill two important roles during the Bucharest event last weekend. Flashnet provided together with Cisco Romania the LoRaWAN™ infrastructure necessary to deploy LoRa™ Internet of Things applications, while company representative was invited as a conference speaker and mentor for several IoT startups.
During the presentation, the audience was introduced to the innovative LoRa™ communication technology and LoRaWAN™ specification. LoRaWAN™ is a Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) specification intended for Internet of Things applications in local, regional, national or global networks. LoRaWAN™ targets key requirements of IoT such as secure long-range bi-directional communication, mobility and localization services. The standard provides seamless interoperability among Smart Things without the need of complex local installations and gives back the freedom to the user, developer and businesses, enabling the rollout of IoT projects.
The event continued with an in-depth mentoring session for several startups in the IoT field and featuring LoRa™ technology, in order to offer both technological and business support for the young entrepreneurs. “We are very proud that all the teams we mentored during the event were very professional and stepped into the next phase of the program and we are looking forward to support them and to follow how their ideas will take shape in the next few months” said Lorand Mozes, CEO of Flashnet.
